Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish made up of the the Churches of the Immaculate Conception, Montclair and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Montclair  is designed to serve as an advisory group to the pastor.  Its purpose is to be a liaison between the parishioners and the pastor in order to communicate parish needs, address parish concerns and build up our parish family so that we can all grow together in our faith and fulfill our parish mission “to be the faithful proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in obedience to His Spirit, Who brings that Gospel to life in us, Who guides us to be His hands and voice, and Who inspires us to carry His message into the worlds we touch as we spread the Truth that God’s love is for everyone.”

Our parish ministries and activities are organized into four areas: Word, Worship, Community Building and Service. This provides a structure for our parish and guides the formation of our Pastoral Council. The Pastoral Council is ideally comprised of 10-12 members representing each of the four areas.

The Pastoral Council meets once a month (generally the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.), and its members are invited to serve on the Council for up to two 3-year terms.

Pastoral Council membership is a serious commitment that includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Council meetings consistently
  • Maintain communication with ministries/groups from assigned area of parish life
  • Report relevant information, concerns and needs from assigned area at Council meetings
  • Participate in any Council-sponsored events for the parish
  • Provide support for other parish activities and events as needed

I have been at Immaculate  for three years.  Last year, I attended the Discovering Christ program, and my wife, Teresa, and I were married here in June 2015.  Teresa has since become a member of the parish.  I loved Immaculate from the first time I walked in, as did Teresa.  I started attending when I lived in Montclair, and there was never a doubt that we would continue to attend even when we found our new home, luckily, in Verona.  When Msgr. Paul and Fr. Joe asked if we would be interested in joining the Pastoral Council, we were honored to be considered. —WORD—

My family and I have enjoyed being parishioners of Immaculate conception for the past 18 1/2 years.  I am currently a member of the Chancel Choir and have been singing with them for the past four years.  My children attended the Religious Education program throughout their elementary and high school years.  In the past, I have worked for morning hospitality gatherings and love being a member of the Immaculate family.  I have worked in many different careers throughout my adult life and currently run my own business in Montclair.  I hope to bring my experience to the Pastoral Council. I believe that if we work together, we can help the parish and the surrounding community to flourish in many ways. —WORSHIP—

My family and I have been members of Immaculate Conception for 30 years.  The church is among the most beautiful in the state creating a peaceful place to celebrate and share your faith with other parishioners.  I share my faith with the children especially because I have been teaching religious education classes for the past 19 years.  Our parish offers a wonderful sense of community with special events throughout the year. I now have the honor of serving on the Pastoral Council.  The Church of the Immaculate Conception is a place of peace and beauty to celebrate and share your faith. —WORD—

My family and I have been members of Immaculate since 2006.  We absolutely fell in love with the beauty of architecture, inviting spirit and equally important the diverse community of the parishioners.  Our children have received their first Communion here and are enrolled in the religious education program, where I serve as a substitute Catechist.  This will be my first year serving on the Pastoral Council; my hope is to share the gifts God has blessed me with within the church to help to grow our many ministries. —WORSHIP—

I have been a parishioner of Immaculate Conception for 33 years.  My husband and I have three children, and I work locally as a nurse at Mountainside Hospital.  Through the years I have been involved in a number of ministries.  Currently, I am the coordinator of “We Care” and am a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound.  I am pleased to serve as a member of the Pastoral Council. —SERVICE—

I have been attending Mass at Immaculate Conception since returning to the area in 2012 and became a parishioner in 2013.  The church itself is a beautiful, peaceful and calming place for me, and I enjoy the parish “community”  most of all.  I am a lector at 12:30pm Masses on Sunday, have participated in the Discovering Christ, Following Christ, Sharing Christ series in 2015 and am now a facilitator for the current Discovering Christ program (2016). I hope that my involvement with these ministries, as well as with the Pastoral Council, helps others to have a deeper, more personal relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ. —WORSHIP—

Our family has been a part of Immaculate Conception for over 15 years.  The most recent parish involvement for both of us is having the honor to teach the 8th Grade religious education class.  Our oldest son is an altar server while our youngest eagerly awaits his turn to serve.  The parish is very special to us.  Aside from being the church where were married by Fr. Burla over 15 years ago and where our two boys were baptized and continue their sacramental preparations, it is also the place where our relationship with God blossomed and continues to grow.  We are honored to serve on the Pastoral Council and will do whatever we can to continue to serve Jesus through our involvement with the parish and add to such a wonderful church.  We are looking forward to helping others serve others through Christ our Lord. —COMMUNITY-BUILDING— —SERVICE
