We Care

“I was lonely and you visited me.”

“I was hungry and you gave me to eat.”

We Care is a parish support group whose outreach mission is to offer comfort, compassion and nourishment to those hungry and homeless suffering with HIV/AIDS.

We Care was founded in 1992 in response to a parishioner’s request for help with a family member suffering with AIDS.  The members of We Care which included people with HIV/AIDS, family, friends and IC parishioners met weekly in the rectory to share emotional and spiritual support and to receive legal and medical advice from guest speakers. Monsignor Timothy Shugrue, Father Mike Sheehan and Father Richard Francesco moderated meetings offering welcome, encouragement and solace. We Care’s mission expanded when Brother Joe McAllister FMS asked the group to provide food for a drop in center in Newark as well as clothing for those with AIDS.

Today, We Care continues its outreach of offering comfort compassion and food to the men and women residents at St. Bridget’s Shelter in Newark. Members serve as cooks and drivers, preparing hot meals for 50 and delivering them to St. Bridget’s each Monday morning.
